Welcome Freshmen!

New Things Can Be Scary But It Is Worth The Risk When You Try!

February 7, 2023

Welcome to Brunswick High School!
It’s a bigger school than the middle school—and grades do matter.

Here are some things that will help you get good grades:

  • Do your work
  • Participate in class
  • Ask questions in class (there is no dumb question if you don’t understand a topic)
  • Take good notes
  • Create a study schedule
  • Remove distractions and stay on task
  • Study with peers
  • Respect your teachers

Doing your homework is important. Yes, I know it sounds so nerdy but homework piles up when you procrastinate and put it off. I know from experience, that if you keep up with homework you will go far. Procrastination is never a good idea. It may seem good at first but then you get behind and may not be able to catch up.

Participating in class is very important. Teachers love when you participate in class.

Asking questions in class is very important. It helps you learn the material that you may not understand. If you do not understand and don’t ask questions the teacher may think that you know the topic then move on to a different topic that may be harder.

Taking good notes that you understand will help you if you forget a topic then you can go back and relearn it from your notes. If you don’t take good notes or notes you can understand that means that you may have to ask the teacher for help to go back over a topic again.

Creating a study schedule is very important so you know when to study and to keep a schedule to keep track of work and when things need to be turned in and will help you study in time for tests and quizzes.

Removing distractions like phones would completely help you study and do homework. I recommend that you turn on do not disturb and turn off your notifications. Then get ready to study.

This next one is optional. You can study with peers. For some people, it helps them learn but for others it distracts them. For me I study by myself first then once I get it down I study with friends for them to quiz me.

Remember to turn things in on time. It’s important to turn things in on time because things will pile up quickly. High school is much harder than middle school.

Self-discipline is important. Like choosing the right people to hang out with. Hanging with the wrong people can cause your grades to drop. Another good thing is time management. Managing your time correctly can help you work faster and more efficiently.

There are always new things to do in High School. Like journalism, I didn’t think that I would love writing, but I found I love it when I joined. So choose your path and do something outside your comfort zone.
