Halloween is a favorite amongst many—scares, costumes, and lights, all influencing the experience that everyone has for the holiday.
The Brunswick Haunted House displays these features and much more being hosted by the City of Brunswick and run by volunteers: The Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue (BVAR).
The house is located at the City Park Building in downtown Brunswick right beside the city park, the address being 665 E Potomac St, Brunswick, MD 21716. The only two days to experience this spooky treat is this Saturday and Sunday, the 26th and 27th from 6 PM until 9 PM.
Saturday night will be a packed night as it not only has the Halloween party that the city is holding, but between 6 till 9 PM the Rec Center will have a family friendly scare and activities for families. The family friendly scares are dullened and not as frightful and meant for those who have children and would like to attend the haunted house.
In contrast, Sunday night will be for the scare fanatics! Sunday focuses on scares for those 16 years or older, featuring a scarier objective. If interested in attending please sign up to fill for a time slot at: www.hauntbrunswick.com. (Blocked on FCPS devices: works fine on phones to sign up!)
They will be selling food, drinks, and baked goods as well as taking donations at the door. Half of the profits going toward the haunted house fund and the other half going toward the BEACON Food Bank which is located at 601 E Potomac St, Brunswick, MD 21716.
The one who came up with the design for the house being none other than Andrew Davis. Davis also runs the Cadet Program at the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue which is also known as a main leader within BVAR. The classes meet once a month on the first Saturday of every month for 1 to 2 hours depending on the type of lessons, taking ages from 12 till 18. While the classes are quite spread out, with the participation of more cadets the lessons will increase however there needs to be more people for more classes in the future.
As of now the classes have reviewed different parts that come with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rescue Program and the Firefighter Program. They also feature many different programs—the cadet program only being one of many. The fee for the cadets is $2 per year, per cadet. They also have a special for adults where if you put forth enough hours for about three years there will be a tax deduction—all you need to do is log your hours!
With this, collecting volunteer hours for both cadets and adults will pass by like a flash and the results will pay for most—if not all of it. Almost everything they do is held at the Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue, the address being 200 W Potomac St, Brunswick, MD 21716.
Lastly, of course, the Haunted House is brought to you by Andrew Davis and his family including the many volunteers behind the scenes and scares: Kylie Chung, Lora Davis, Cassie Goodman, Greg Goodman, Jake Holdridge, Jenni Holdridge, Justin Houck, Jacob Muller, Scott Rinker, Nick Schaffer, Bree Shiley, Angel White, and President Chief Steve White.
