The new Lion King (2019) movie, Mufasa recently came into theaters on December 20th, 2024. The first Lion King movie came out on July 19, 2019. With the new one coming out, it shows the story behind Mufasa’s life and his relationship with his brother. It became popular quickly and a family friendly movie that everyone can enjoy. Not only was the movie popular in theaters, but one of the songs in the movie became popular on the social media app TikTok.

Miranda and Nicholas Britell made this top song that everyone enjoyed from the movie called, “I always wanted a brother.”  This song became a trend for siblings and anyone interested in the song. With the song being known on TikTok it made the popularity of the movie grow but didn’t influence people to actually go out and see it. I created a survey that gets personal opinions on the movie and how they feel about both of them. A viewer, Andre Phillips, a junior at Brunswick High School, explains his opinion on Mufasa.

“Overall, the movie wasn’t bad. I feel like at some points the movie looked very AI generated, and some of the plot wasn’t that great. But overall, I liked the fact that it was Rafiki telling Mufasa’s story.”

With the survey there were 25% of people who have seen it and 75% of people who haven’t seen it. Another student Kaitlin Heck, another junior from Brunswick High School, commented to express her feelings for the villain in Mufasa.

“I feel like the villain was disappointing too, like the white lion had such a simple downfall, just to boost Mufasa into leadership.”

It all just depends on others opinions and what others want to see when new movies come out. People want to see new releases and movies they won’t regret watching. With the poll I created people are expressing how they enjoyed the original lion king more than Mufasa. With this, many people still did enjoy the new movie and saw good parts of it but overall liked the concept and plot of the original Lion King.
