Steve Tuel is a beloved history teacher here at Brunswick High School.
After having Mr. Tuel, like most kids I have a new found love for history.
Mr. Tuel, loves what he does.
Everyday students get his one hundred percent.
Tuel shares why he loves teaching, “I love the kids, I like teaching kids who want to learn. I really enjoy interacting with the students, it challenges me to become a better teacher.”
This is seen through his high energy and engaging assignments. While some assignments are hard they challenge the students to be better which helps his classes become better students. Mr. Tuel explained every assignment very well, even providing students review sheets to help them prepare for tests even more. When reviewing for a test in class, Mr. Tuel usually plays a game with his classes, he might split the class up into two teams and students would answer questions on their review sheet. If they got them right that team would get points. It just makes learning more fun and it shows his classes that Mr. Tuel really cares about teaching kids—in a positive way.
“I’ve always liked teaching, and after I retired from law enforcement I needed something to do so I went back to school and decided to get my teaching certificate.”
Mr. Tuel also cares about students’ safety out in the world.
Tuel was a law enforcement officer and could share stories and tell students how to act in certain situations. His background in law enforcement also helps the Roaders of Brunswick understand government better as they occasionally get some inside information.
Mr. Tuel doesn’t just teach—he also does other things to help around the school. “I am the co-coach of the academic team and I used to be the Freshman class advisor, but not anymore, and I tutor after school.” Mr Tuel also helps with the academic team and helped our current academic team have a good season this year.
On top of all of this Mr. Tuel does tutoring after school to make sure that all of his students understand the material. For example, he offered to tutor kids for our final test that was worth twenty percent of our grade, Mr. Tuel made a slideshow over 100 slides long with similar questions to those on the test. Mr. Tuel also bought snacks, with his own money, for his students to have which goes above and beyond what most teachers do.
Thank you Mr. Tuel for being a great teacher and great person.
