Ovechkin Is Just Steps Away From Gretzky’s Record

Alex Mihailovich Ovechkin—a Russian professional ice hockey left winger and is also the captain of the Washington Capitals hockey team. With his incredible achievements over the years he was nicknamed the “Great 8” which also references his jersey number.

Alex Ovechkin has been playing professional hockey since 2001, and over the years he has achieved many records including: the most power play goals, most goals in away games, most overtime goals, most goalies scored upon, and most goals with one team in NHL history.

Alex Ovechkin received all these records and doesn’t want to stop there. Ovechkin’s next achievement is to break Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 goals. Alex Ovechkin is only 9 goals away and fans believe he can easily break this record. Wayne Gretzky is a Canadian-American who was a professional ice hockey player and a former coach. He played 20 seasons and retired at 38 years old in 1999. With Gretzky’s record being known as “impossible,” Alex Ovechkin is proving that after 25 years he Can be the first to break his record. In order for Alex Ovechkin to achieve this goal he needs to score at least one goal every game.

According to Fox Sports Ovechkin is favored to break the record against either the Islanders or the Blue Jackets. Nathan Callahan, a former Brunswick High School student that graduated in 2023 expresses that, “Ovechkin can possibly make it in 16 games but might not be in 14 games.” Some fans are doubting Alex Ovechkin’s plays and are unsure about the results. During a recent game Ovechkin had the chance to score on an open net, but instead he gave the puck to his teammate Aliaksei Protas, for him to get a hat trick. Fans and officials are Assuming that Ovechkin will play another season and become The only player to ever score 900 regular-season goals. While Some people may not like Alex Ovechkin, fans of Gretzky can’t lie that what Alex Ovechkin has accomplished in his career is impressive. In an interview with Chris Cerullo, from RussianMachineNeverBreaks.com, Ovechkin states that, “I don’t make plans, I just do my job.”

Fans believe that even though this is a big deal, Alex Ovechkin is just glad to play the sport and enjoy his time during the season. He desires to not focus on the future and wants to plan things as they come. Alex Ovechkin explains when being questioned by Chris Cerullo,“The schedule is very tough, and now we need to prepare for the playoffs… we need to put all our personal goals aside.” Alex Ovechkin is an experienced player and is not worried about the future in regards to the record. He 100% wants to beat it but is more worried about being a team player and being there for his team. Alex Ovechkin is a responsible team player and respects his team and others. Fans explain how he deserves this record and has worked hard to get to where he is today.

The real question is will he beat this record?
