The Champions League is a European soccer tournament that is played every year by top-division European clubs. Basically the top teams from each country in Europe qualify for this tournament, making every game high quality and exciting. Every year the champions league has staggering viewership, with the final being one of the consistently biggest events in sports every year.
European soccer’s governing body said in a statement: “The match will be aired in more than 200 territories and is projected to reach 450 million unique people globally across all media touchpoints. The final will attract an estimated live global average viewership of 145 million via in-home broadcast, live streaming or by fans watching out of home in bars, restaurants, or fan parks. Complementing the live viewership, fans worldwide will join in on social media, where UEFA Champions League Final content will generate an estimated 3.3 billion social and UEFA web & app interactions.”
One of the most exciting parts of the Champions League began last week, with the knockout stages. 8 teams were knocked out on Tuesday and Wednesday, most notably Manchester City who won the trophy in the 2022-23 season. Real Madrid’s Mbappe scored 3 stunning goals to make the final score 6-3 on aggregate. This victory for Madrid cemented them as one of the most likely to win the competition. Real Madrid has won 15 titles over the clubs history and they also won the last trophy in the 23-24 season, so pressure likely wont be a issue for them. But experience enough to win the trophy?
Another very likely contender for the trophy is Barcelona. The team’s star studded squad has been performing at a top level, scoring 65 goals so far this season (2.71 per game). This is the highest amount in the Spanish league, towering over Real Madrid’s 52 goals (2.17 per game). The most exciting element of Barcelona is their front three players, Barcelona’s front three of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski is one of the most dynamic and dangerous in Europe. Yamal, at just 17 years old, has already proven himself as a world-class talent, while Lewandowski continues to showcase his clinical finishing ability. The three players’ dynamic movement and positioning makes them a huge threat against every back line in the world, which was shown in the 2 games they played against Real Madrid this season. With scores of 5-2 and 4-1, Barca has dominated Madrid both times they played this season. Which leaves us with the question: can Madrid accept they are the underdog and change up tactics to beat Barcelona, or will they be destroyed by them yet again?
The final team that has a very good chance of winning the trophy this year is the English team, Liverpool FC. The team is currently top of the English Premier League, dominating the majority of teams they have played. Their star player, Mo Salah has scored 24 goals and recorded 15 assists in only 26 games. The pure skill we’ve been seeing from Mo Salah and the rest of the Liverpool squad isn’t the only reason they are considered a top contender for the trophy however. The main reason people consider Liverpool to be a top contender for this trophy actually has to do with their placing in the earlier parts of the champions league, having placed first in the initial stage of the champions league and still holding that position strongly.
So the question is: Is one of these top teams going to win the trophy this year, or will we see an underdog story play out in these next couple months? Either way fans will love this year’s Champions League and if you’d like to see more articles about this league let us know by leaving a comment underneath this article.
