Captain America: Brave New World is Marvel’s latest installment in their Marvel Cinematic Universe Saga, and their 36th movie released.
In its opening weekend, Captain America grossed 90 million dollars, which was below par for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially since Avengers Endgame grossed 357 million dollars—5 years ago. The movie could be good to connect the MCU after the events of Endgame.
In fact, the first Iron Man movie grossed 98 million dollars, and this was released way back in 2008.
Adjusting for inflation, Iron Man grosses 143 million dollars in today’s money.

The story begins with Sam Wilson as the new Captain of America after passing on the name of the Falcon to his apprentice, Jaoquin Torres. Both Wilson and Torres find themselves in the middle of an international conflict between America and Japan over the rights to control a new element called Adamantium. The duo attempts to find the mastermind and true cause behind the conflict between nations, while also learning their new roles as heroes.
The movie takes a positive and accurate approach to a variety of elements of film. The fights and settings of which were quite interesting and well done. Isaiah Bradley and Torres are likeable characters along with a couple other well written ones. Cameos fit well with the story were not just random and out of nowhere, they actually built towards the overall plot. The CGI was well done except for one mistake near the end of the movie where the audience may feel the background doesn’t fit the end scene or setting. The movie was short with a runtime of less than 2 hours which makes it easier to comprehend fore new Marvel fans. The average run time of a MCU film is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The pairing of the hero vs villain trope could have used some more thought. Some fans may feel the pairing to be more random when compared to other MCU films. Pacing also felt very rushed, no time to let things sink in or process, most likely due to the uncharacteristically short run time of the film. Quite a bit of the characters were poorly written and hard to relate to viewers. Captain America may seem like a downgrade from loyal MCU fans of Steve Rogers: both physically and characteristically.
In conclusion, the movie did its job in the MCU and was serviceable. It really is a coin flip to say if you’ll enjoy this movie or not. Die—hard fans like Jared seem to say the movie is a misuse of potential good characters, however some viewers may like the uniqueness of how the characters are shown.
