This morning President Donald Trump posted a AI generated video of a disgustingly reimagined Gaza Strip. For context, over the past year Israel and Gaza have been in a conflict over an attack on Oct. 7, 2023. There has been a lot of debates and differences of opinions on how the US should respond to this conflict, some argue we should interfere and call the conflict a genocide, others say we should just let them deal with it themselves, but nobody has ever had the idea of turning it into a resort full of belly dancers and classy hotels.
The 34 second long video opens with a group of barefoot Palestinian children walking into a destroyed Gaza strip with the words “What’s next?” over their heads. They then walk towards a new city full of skyscrapers and golden beaches, cutting to AI generated images of luxury street shops and cars. The video then shows an AI generated video of Elon Musk eating Hummus and the strange bearded belly dancers mentioned before. Then they show more generated videos of Elon Musk dancing in raining money, showing children jumping up and down to grab the cash. The video was accompanied by a song with the lyrics “Donald’s coming to set you free” and “Trump Gaza shining bright. Golden future, a brand-new light. Feast and dance. The deed is done”.
The video faced instant backlash from the Palestinian authority, who said in a statement that the video’s premise was a “serious violation of international law.” Arab leaders also met in the capital city of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh, this Friday even before this video was released. They planned to discuss Trump’s plan to own the strip and to “formulate a response” according to CNN’s Mick Krever.
Trump’s proposal to expel 2.1 million Palestinians from Gaza and transform it into a “Riviera” is truly disgusting and will bring massive repercussions in the coming days. The fact is we are talking about people’s homes here, this isn’t some land up for grabs, this is people’s homes, 2.1 million to be exact. The worst part of it? This behavior likely won’t even be the worst thing Trump will propose, considering his actions are becoming more and more sporadic and unintelligible.
In all, Trump’s bizarre AI video turns a humanitarian crisis into a tacky sales pitch, showing once again that he sees the world not through the lens of leadership, but of greed and self-promotion.
