What does being on the staff of the Garnet and Gold Gazette mean to you?
Being on the staff of the Garnet and Gold Gazette has had a big impact on my life. When I first decided to take this class I never realized how much I truly loved writing. I have learned so many lessons from being a part of the staff that I will continue to use the rest of my life. I am so thankful for everything the Garnet and Gold Gazette has taught me in life.
How has being on the staff impacted you?
Being on the staff has impacted my life in so many positive ways. It’s allowed me to put my work in writing out there for everyone to see. It has also allowed me to grow as a writer in building good habits and learning to take criticism. It’s also allowed me to learn how to properly collaborate with others to put something together that I could never do just on my own. Being able to work on a team this big and still do my own pieces of writing but ultimately still working together to make the website run has been a very enjoyable experience.
What advice do you have for upcoming journalism students?
I’d tell incoming Journalism students to take special care in their craft as they begin to write as you aren’t just representing yourself but also our school and the Gazette as a whole. I’d also say to enjoy every day but to also take advantage of being apart of the Gazette because sooner or later you realize you’d wish you still had more time to write one more article or do one more podcast with your friends.
Favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory would have to be anytime I was able to hangout with all my friends. Whether that was Friday night football games, after school hangouts or making podcasts for the Gazette.
What are your plans after high school?
My plan after high school is to attend the University of Maryland for four years, majoring in Journalism with a minor in business. I hope to be able to one day write articles and newspapers for big time sport companies such as ESPN.
