Three weeks ago, Friday, Nov. 21, Wicked: For Good–the second Wicked movie aired in movie theaters. Wicked: For Good has been a big box office hit earning $226 million globally as their debut, which is far more than the first Wicked movie which aired in 2024.
Wicked originally is a popular Broadway musical that tells the story of the relationship between Glinda, the good witch and the wicked witch of the south, Elphaba, from the story The Wizard of Oz.
Directed by Jon M. Chu, the first movie of this Wicked franchise, Wicked: Part 1, aired in 2024. Part 1 included many of the famous songs such as “What Is This Feeling”, “Dancing Through Life”, “Popular”, and most famous of all, “Defying Gravity.”
Wicked: For Good, was again directed by Jon M. Chu. Chu continued to show the relationship with Glinda and Elphaba as they combat their differences. Wicked: For Good included other famous songs such as “As Long As You’re Mine”, “For Good”, and “No Good Dead.”
As for the film, Wicked: For Good picked up from when Elphaba stole the broom and flew away after she sang “Defying Gravity.”
Wicked: For Good did a fantastic job showing the depths of the sisterhood between Elphaba and Glinda. In the scenes such as when Elphaba hears that Glinda and Fiero are getting married, she goes to see Glinda. This then leads into Glinda trying to convince Elphaba to help the wizard and be wonderful, leading into the song “Wonderful” by Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jeff Goldblum. Additionally, other scenes such as where Elphaba “melts” Glinda went to warn Elphaba, but she is then pushed into a closet and was reassured by Elphaba that it will be okay.

Glinda finishes the movie holding onto little items such as the green liquid bottle that Elphaba had of her mother and the spell book in her remembrance. Glinda then also carries out Elphaba’s message about the Wizard and sends him away, as well as freeing all animals.
The movie tapped into sharing more of the love triangle between Fiero, Glinda, and Elphaba. In Wicked: Part One, Fiero ended up dating Glinda, but viewers got the feeling that he was also attracted to Elphaba. Now in Wicked: For Good, Fiero was set to marry Glinda but then wanted to find Elphaba before anyone else so he could save her.
Eventually, Fiero called off the wedding with Glinda because he proclaimed his love for Elphaba and went with her.
As the two ran off together, Fiero had the urge to always protect Elphaba from the Palace Guards. They really show their romance in full blast as Cynthia Erivo and Johnathan Bailey sing “As Long As You’re Mine.”
Ultimately, Glinda was heartbroken from this news, but she still loved Fiero, so she never wanted him to get hurt.
However, when Elphaba went to see her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, he went to protect her from the other Palace Guards but then was taken to be killed. In order to protect him, Elphaba casted a spell on Fiero to turn him into a Scarecrow so he didn’t feel any pain.
At the very end of the movie, after Elphaba tricked everyone into thinking she melted, Fiero, now the Scarecrow went to take her out of the boards, and they went into hiding together where they could finally love each other in peace.
Arianda Grande did a good job showing the heart break Glinda went through when she saw Fiero go with Elphaba, and when he was being taken away for treason (protecting Elphaba).
Some other great scenes were when Elphaba went to her sister, Nessa who was the Governor to help her fight the Wizard. However, that was also when Bach wanted to leave Munchkin Land, but Nessa forbade any Munchkin to leave without written permission. Later on in this scene, Elphaba ended up casting a spell on Bach turning him into the Tinman.

Another great scene was the little cat fight between Glinda and Elphaba where after the Wicked Witch of the East was killed. Glinda slapped Elphaba then it ended up in them being broken up by the Palace Guards and Fiero.
Wicked: For Good began to tie in the Wizard of Oz. It was tied in through appearances of the Cowardly Lion that actually was the cub Elphaba saved in Wicked: Part One. Then the characters appear–Scarecrow, Tinman, Dorthy and Toto. Alongside the characters, in Wicked: For Good, the yellow brick road was made that Dorthy and her crew followed. Then when Dorthy poured water on the Wicked Witch of the West it really tied in the Wizard of Oz.
Furthermore, the music will uplift anyone to become an avid Wicked the musical fan.
Everyone should go see Wicked: For Good in theaters as it ties in key life lessons through emotion and connection between the characters, but also for the romance, drama and comedy within each scene. The music will uplift anyone to become an avid Wicked the musical fan.
Many Brunswick High School (BHS) students went to see Wicked: For Good the first few days it was airing in theaters. BHS student, Sergia Nyambi, class of ’26, shared how she really enjoyed the movie. “I know some people didn’t think it was as good as the first, but I still really like it,” Nyambi expressed, “The songs were great and some of the scenes were emotional and touching.”
Additionally, another student, Megan Dick, class of ’28, said that if she could only describe the movie in three words, she described it as: “Entertaining, thrilling, and fun!”
Finally, this movie really showed some powerful life lessons and key messages. One of the messages being shown was always staying true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in. This was shown through Elphaba always wanting to fight against animal cruelty and wanting to show that the Wizard manipulated everyone in Emerald City.
