The artist behind some of the most popular songs of the 2000s such as “Starships” (2012), “Super Bass” (2010), and “Anaconda” (2014), just made a move that is leading to her decline as “Queen Barb.” The famous Trinidadian rapper, Nicki Minaj (43), just potentially caused her decline as a loved rapper. Nicki Minaj is known for her rap music and attitude is well loved by her fans across the globe.
Minaj is known for her support to the LGBTQIA+ community, openly supporting them, especially those who are transgender. Additionally, she has outwardly spoken against President Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policies during his 2016 presidential term. She followed this denouncement with how those policies were scary as she herself is an immigrant from Trinidad, and she first came to the USA at five years old.
These previous comments have led her fandom known as “The Barbz” to be filled with members who are in the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals who align themselves with the Democratic party or consider themselves to have liberal ideals.
On Dec. 21, 2025, Minaj appeared at Erika Kirk’s side at Turning Point USA’s (TPUSA) AmericaFest (a movement and conference based on Charlie Kirk’s nonprofit organization founded in 2012) in Phoenix, AZ. After her late husband Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Erika Kirk took over TPUSA. Kirk shocked the world as Minaj walked on stage to join her in discussing TPUSA Republican, Christian ideals. Many fans were shocked as previously Minaj has spoken out against President Trump and considering the majority of her fan base have liberal ideals.

At this TPUSA event, Minaj delivered remarks on Christianity and politics. People were stunned when Minaj began to comment on transgender individuals. CBS News shared how she continues to face backlash after stating “Boys, be boys. It’s okay… be boys…” Minaj said, “There is nothing wrong with being a boy.” This comment shocked her whole fanbase as she reversed all her support for those who are transgender.
Minaj continued to surprise conservatives with her open support for President Trump and Vice President Vance. AP News shared how during this TPUSA conservative event, Minaj expressed that JD Vance and Donald Trump are “role models” for young boys and men. In addition, AP News stated how Minaj then shared her thoughts on “denouncing violence against Christians in Nigeria.”
After this TPUSA event Nicki Minaj faced a large amount of backlash from her fans. Many fans have publicly expressed their unfollowing of Minaj on social media platforms and even blocking Minaj on the music platform Spotify. Furthermore, the decrease in music streams on all platforms are going to damage her net worth and income in the long run.
Many fans unexpectedly are putting out petitions for the Trinidadian rapper to be deported back to Trinidad. As previously stated, Nick Minaj came to the USA at five years old from Trinidad, making herself and her parents immigrants. Rolling Stone has stated how this petition to deport Minaj has received over “120,000 signatures and counting” as of Jan. 2, 2026. This petition was created by “One of the recent petitions began on Dec. 27 by a 16 year-old in Chicago named Tristan Hamilton…” Mankaprr Conteh from Rolling Stone stated, “Hamilton wrote that Minaj has left her LGBTQ fans feeling deeply betrayed.” The backlash has met an insane height Minaj had to deactivate her Instagram account.
Many individuals question whether this was the right move for rap icon Nicki Minaj.
Her fanbase is divided along with celebrities who criticized Minaj’s beliefs, comments and her decision to appear at this event; but many other individuals including public figures gave Minaj props for speaking out about what she believes in, advocating for her right for freedom of speech.
