Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance. At Brunswick high school (BHS), love shows up in many different ways. It can be seen through friendships, passions, the community, everyday kindness, and family. Love is a complex emotion, taking many forms and showing itself differently everywhere and for everyone.
Friendship
Friendship is one of the most sweet and meaningful ways students experience love at BHS. You can see it through friends laughing together and supporting each other.
Julia Thompson, a student at BHS, said, “True friends are a support system because they give you a shoulder to lean on and help build you up during both good and bad times.”
Friendship helps students feel cared for and included, and it reminds everyone that love isn’t only romantic–it’s about connection and support too.
Community
Love is everywhere in the community too. From pep rallies to clubs and sport games, students and staff cheer each other on and celebrate together.
This sense of community makes students feel like they belong, showing that love can be shared with everyone and not just people who you know on a personal level.
Passion
Love can also show up through passion–whether it’s a hobby, a goal, or even taking care of yourself.
Another sophomore, Lena Campbell, shares about the importance of loving yourself.
“It’s important to me that I love myself and put into myself as much as I would someone I love,” Campbell said.
Passion teaches us that love can mean confidence, growth, and motivation. Loving something (or yourself!) makes school and life feel brighter every day.
Family
Family is another way students experience love. Whether it’s encouragement, showing up, or just helping with homework, family shows care every single day.
This support helps students feel loved and supported even when school gets stressful. It is a reminder that someone is always in the corner, no matter what.
Acts of Kindness
Love is also found in the little everyday moments when students show care for each other. From holding the door open for someone or just helping someone with something they’re stumped on, these small actions make school more enjoyable for everyone.
Acts of kindness help students feel cared for and appreciated, showing that love doesn’t have to be big to matter–it can be tiny moments that make a big difference.
Love at BHS isn’t just about Valentine’s Day or romance. It’s in the friendships that support students, the passions that inspire hard work, the little acts of kindness that brighten someone’s day, the care of family, and the sense of belonging in our school community.
These everyday forms of love remind us that connection, care, and joy are what makes school truly special.
