March 6, 2026, the Brunswick High School (BHS) boys varsity basketball team traveled to Dorchester, Maryland, for their semi-states game.
The team played a long game against Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. Going into the semi-finals game, the basketball team earned the title of 1A regional champions after they won their previous game against Boonsboro High School.
Due to Cambridge-South Dorchester High School having the better record, they earned home court advantage, which meant that BHS students would have to travel two hours to support the team.
This held limitations on Roader Nation (Brunswick’s student section), for showing out and supporting the team as this game determined the rest of the season.
After the hard-fought game, Brunswick came behind losing to Cambridge-South Dorchester, 66-52. This game concluded the season for BHS boys basketball, however this season set many records for players personally, and for the school’s record.

Even though there were limitations to filling up our student section, some students put in the effort and drove over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge to support the team.
Ava Higgins, a junior, shared how the course of the game was not steady, there were times where Brunswick would be leading, but also falling behind. Additionally, she stated how many moments stood out during the game due to great shots taken, and other defensive wins.
“When they started to come back after halftime really got everyone’s attention,” Higgins said. “They were starting to shoot more 3-pointers and wouldn’t miss them.”
Another student who attended, Sienna Russo, another junior, mentioned that towards the end of the game in the final quarter it was a little emotional.
“I was sad watching the last few minutes because it meant the season was over, but I was also happy that we made it that far and everyone got to experience it,” Russo said.
Although Brunswick came back after halftime, giving hope to their fans, in the end they fell through and let up a few more points.
A spectator and junior, Dillion Murphy shared what surprised him during the game.
“I was surprised by the outcome of the game,” Murphy said. “They showed really well leading up to that game which gave everyone crazy high confidence in them.”
Even though Brunswick lost, the community grew stronger as the community traveled two hours to support the team.
Andrew Jones, senior, shared how seeing a student section made a difference for the team.
“The crowd made the game more fun,” Jones said. “Leaving school to come almost three hours to support and go at it with their [Cambridge-South Dorchester] student section and crowd made playing the game a lot of fun.”
