This year, Brunswick High School welcomed an energetic freshman, Maya Lowery, to join the varsity softball team. Lowery has brought the energy and competitiveness among the other players to really push the softball team this year to new limits.
With a record of eight-eight, these girls have brought their A-game to the softball field. The varsity softball team has made many records of home runs scored, and few fielding errors.

One of the star players has made her name on the field, and came to show her skill. Freshman Maya Lowery has had an amazing season thus far with four home runs and one grand slam!
Teammate, Aerianna Carter, junior, shared what it is like to be a teammate of Lowery’s.
“Maya is a very unique freshman and has joined the family by cracking her jokes and sound effects while on the field,” Carter said.
Additionally, Carter stated how she motivates the rest of the team to really push themselves when playing the game.
“Maya Lowery, aka ‘Fresh meat,’ truly keeps her head in and only gets into her 2% of the time as well as bumping her skill for the future,” Carter said.
Lowery, was recognized as the Frederick News Post’s (FNP) “Athlete of the Week”, week of April 1-7.

“It felt very good and exciting,” Lowery said when she was recognized.
Lowery earned FNP’s Athlete of the Week by having an outstanding performance in the game against Francis Scott Key (FSK). Lowery, had one home runs, six RBIs, and a walk off grand slam, along with three total hits in the game.
To keep up her work, Lowery shared how she constantly is working outside of practices on her batting and fielding to improve on, “I always practice extra when I have the free time to get better,” Lowery said.
“I think I have influenced them to have more energy and have made this season more exciting,” Lowery said.
Furthermore, Lowery mentioned how it is her goal to play softball in college, preferably at a division one school, “I want to look for a good coach and program overall,” Lowery said.
