What does being on the staff of The Garnet and Gold Gazette mean to you?
I was inspired to write an article for the G&G due to my best friend being in journalism. Yet after writing the article, I was able to find a new enjoyment in reporting news. This is because being a part of the staff allows me to be extremely creative and is a place to express myself.
How has being on the staff impacted you?
After being a part of the staff, I have found more inspiration to write stories for my own blog and actually wish to participate in a similar club when I am in university. I have found a fun outlet that allows others to read what I write.
What advice do you have for upcoming journalism students?
I am not in journalism class, but since I do help out, my best advice is to volunteer. A lot of times, there are ideas on the board, and you simply have to volunteer to be the writer for these ideas. It will allow you to explore your options and view Brunswick or the world in a different light.
Favorite high school memory?
Generally, all my favorite memories revolve around my best friend Sara Guillen, who is also another member of the staff. But something that I remember the most is how Sara and I, coming back from fully online, were trying to find a quiet place during an activity fair and found the club we would be a huge part of until we graduated. We sat there and listened to people talk about the book, and we decided to be a part of it. I will forever remember how quiet the room was and how it made high school seem so much more exciting.
What are your plans after high school?
I plan on going to a four-year university where I will pursue a degree in anthropology with plans for a language minor or a creative writing minor. I hope to work in the history field, most likely for a museum, and travel a bit through the world to see remains of the past. I have yet to decide the actual job position I want to pursue.
