What does being on the staff of The Garnet and Gold Gazette mean to you?
Being on the Garnet and Gold Gazette staff has definitely been one of the most important things of my high school career. It has created a love for writing I would’ve never expected. Not only do I love to write, I have learned so many things I would’ve never expected like site design, marketing tools, and most importantly leadership skills.
How has being on the staff impacted you?
It is very difficult to put in writing just how much being on this staff has impacted me. I started taking journalism because I had heard Ms. G was a good teacher and needed a filler class. My whole life up until this point I had planned to be a doctor. Now, after three years of journalism I am majoring in marketing and have found a unique love for graphic design/social media marketing. This is something I may have never discovered without taking this class. Not only has this class impacted me, but Ms. G will forever be the teacher that impacted me most, always inspiring me to do my best, follow my dreams, and much more.
What advice do you have for upcoming journalism students?
I really do believe this is a class everyone should try. Even people who may not like writing (like I used to be) may discover that it actually isn’t that bad when you can write about whatever you want! But if you are going to take journalism, please submit your articles on time and do not use copyrighted images 🙂
Favorite high school memory?
One of my favorite high school memories has to be the journalism field trip to Hood College. It was genuinely so cool to get to experience an actual college class, and take classes I would’ve never expected to enjoy like skepticism. I also had so much fun getting to act out a real life PR scenario and film a live news broadcast.
What are your plans after high school?
After high school I plan to attend the University of Kentucky majoring in marketing and minoring in graphic design. I plan to participate in club dance as well.
