The first annual Dancing with the Poms in 2023 was a hit! Not only was it a great fundraiser and a friendly competition but it is a perfect way for dancers and athletes to support each other.

These athletes were given the opportunity to learn choreography and perform it on a stage in front of hundreds of people, a unique growing experience many typical athletes do not get the privilege to have and perform. Not only does it create a new category of skills like remembering choreography and moving your body but it has created irreplaceable memories. Dancing with the Poms has shown that high school students really do care to support the other, athletics, and Brunswick—as a community. This competition has only grown since last year with higher athlete participation—specifically male athletes!

The competition last year was fierce! Poms captain Jenna Dick took home the win with her partner, Brielle Simpson.

Phoebe Carpenter and Melissa got second place also earning the people’s choice award.

Lastly, Nataline Birney and partner Atiya Jackson received third place.

Join us on February 24, in the BHS auditorium at 7pm to see who takes home these trophies this year!

Not only will this event feature a tough competition, but there will be exhibition pieces performed by Poms members, themed baskets to purchase, concessions to support BHS Safe and Sane, and live audience voting for the coveted—”People’s Choice Award.” Revealed below are the 2024 Dancing with the Poms judges and contestants:

We are excited to announce our six DWTP judges: three returning and three brand new judges! Principal Chris Berry, Mayor of Brunswick Nathan Brown, BHS teacher and past dancer Kelly Volkert, BHS teacher and Dance-Dad Jerry Smith, BHS Special Education Instructional Assistant and past dancer Monique Aguirre, and BHS assistant cheer coach, Jesse Duvall.
