What does being on the staff of the Garnet and Gold Gazette mean to you?
I have loved writing articles and being the associate editor for all four years I have been a part of this community. Being able to not only write has been a new experience and challenge for me. I have found that I especially love to review food (shameless plug), and I quite enjoy correcting grammar mistakes in fellow staff members articles.
How has being a mentee impacted you?
When I was a first year member, I would have never thought that I would be a “Journalism Mentee” or co-editor. However, as a fourth year member of this club, I am so extremely happy that I chose this path. I have become so involved in the journalism world, especially the Garnet and Gold Gazette section. I have learned so much through being a mentee (my favorite being how to use Canva for design) and would never ask for a different experience.
What advice do you have for upcoming journalism students?
If you can, you should seize every opportunity to write. Whether it be a review, a short story, or even a photo gallery, someone will want to see it. It can be a great creative outlet, and you can even become a published author/photographer.
Favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory was when I went to states for the first time for swim. I was so excited because it was my first high school season swimming; I felt so accomplished and proud in that moment.
What are your plans after high school?
My plans after high school I plan to attend the University of Maryland to study English or Art History. I am also to be a part of the College Park Scholars program offered at UMD, taking the art pathway.
