In the wake of securing a Distinguished Site award for the Garnet & Gold Gazette—the engineers celebrated on June 4 as a class with full bellies and prideful smiles.
Student Newspapers Online (SNO) is what the platform is for the high school newspaper site on the bhsgazette.org and the Garnet and Gold Gazette (The Gazette, to many) has been a national accredited site since last year according to SNO Distinguished Sites.
The engineers, or reporters, deserve all the accolades for their writing, videos, and design. They earned six badges on School Newspapers Online (SNO) in the areas of site excellence, story page design, writing, multimedia, coverage and audience engagement.
SNO started the SNO Distinguished Sites program to eliminate ambiguity and delineate standards of excellence for an online student news site.
This year 73 schools (secondary and collegiate) achieved the Distinguished Site status.
Only one other school within FCPS has ever achieved this distinction: Linganore High School’s The Lance.
The Garnet and Gold Gazette has done it back to back in 2024 and this year. The Gazette was 1 of 3 Maryland schools this year to be a distinguished site.
