Halloween is over!
That means it’s time for Christmas, right? Christmas is one of the most popular holidays here in the U.S. When asking someone what their favorite holiday is, there is a high chance they are going to say Christmas. It’s the winter season, the time for bundling up and drinking hot cocoa by the fireplace, listening to Christmas music—this starts earlier from some. Most people would agree that December 1st is the right time, but some disagree. Again, there is no “right time,” but there is definitely a time people prefer more. Many stores started putting up their Christmas decorations for sale way before Halloween had even passed. Skipping holidays to jump straight to Christmas. The most common dates to start listening to Christmas music are November 1st, November 25th, and December 1st. Some people even argue that all year is the right time! There is no right answer—it is all opinion.
I conducted a small poll on my social media, and the results were pretty split. Even then, majority of voters believe that Christmas music should not be played before December 1st.
Based on a poll conducted by Stylist, 64% of people believe that Christmas music should not be played before December 1st. Yet some individuals start playing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey the day after Halloween! Songs like “Last Christmas” by Wham! have been played all year long, not just for the holiday season.
There is no surprise that “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey is the number one Christmas song on Spotify, but what are the top five? According to TimeOut, the top five Christmas songs on Spotify are:
- “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey
- “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee
- “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams
- “Last Christmas” by Wham!
- “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms
Which one is your favorite? Do you play that song other than during Christmas? There is no right and wrong to listening to Christmas songs, as long as you enjoy them there is no harm. But, when do you think is the best time to start listening to music?
