Braylen Richmond, a Brunswick senior, shares his experiences, how important the Brunswick music program is to him and how playing instruments helped him connect with others.
“I am connected to Brunswick High School through my musical experience,” Richmond said. “I support the music program through fundraisers and other activities such as the musical, as I play guitar in the pit orchestra. Over the course of this year I have taken four music classes where I have grown my musical skills in piano, guitar, singing, alongside percussion, and I help other and interact with them when I play the guitar and piano. I also learn how to play alongside other musicians with the ensembles I participate in.”
Richmond continues on about how important music is to his life and community.
“Music is significant to me because it is my way of processing and understanding the world,” Richmond said. “It allows me to express myself and connect with other people. I would like to grow as a musician as I want to continue my musical career playing for community events in college. I feel like music is the world’s gift to me and I would like to share that with other people.”
Richmond carries on to talk about how music will be included in his future as a career.
“These activities teach me ways to persevere, for example when learning a piece that gets difficult; it helps me understand myself better,” Richmond said. “I want to continue music as I start as I want to start releasing my own one day and playing live music for others. I also might teach music lessons one day, as that is something I currently enjoy doing. Music is always a great outlet for me creatively and emotionally, which can always be beneficial in my future.”

I love how in depth the interviews with Braylen are. He gives a close look inside the musical and artistical side of Brunswick High School that the average student might not notice. I also love how Braylen not only talks about his musical experiences, but also how that music has impacted his life and has helped him understand himself.
