Struggling to find something to figure out what you want to do over the summer?
Reading is most definitely an option, but the question is:
What books are there to read?
Here are the current top 3 books to read during summer break according to Goodreads:
Dear Debbie #1 – By: Freida McFadden
The book “Dear Debbie” by Freida McFadden is a very popular dark, addictive psychological thriller. A brief summary of “Dear Debbie” entails advice for beleaguered wives, reaching a breaking point when her personal life spirals. After losing her job and uncovering her husband’s secrets she decides to stop being reasonable. Inspired by her own advice, Debbie embarks on a dark, twisted mission to take justice into her own hands.
Yesteryear #2 – By: Caro Claire Burke
The book “Yesteryear” by Care Claire Burke is a psychological thriller and social satire about Natalie Heller Mills, a well known “tradwife” influencer who promotes an idealized rural lifestyle online. One day she wakes up to what appears to be the year 1855 and is forced to live in the harsh realities of the pioneer life that she had once romanticized. Natalie throughout the story struggles to understand whether she’s experiencing time travel, a hoax, or something else entirely.
My Husband’s Wife #3 – By: Alice Feeney
The book “My Husband’s Wife” by Alice Feeney is another psychological thriller centered on Eden Fox, an artist preparing for her first major exhibition. After returning home from a run, she discovers that her key no longer works, another woman is living in her house, and her husband insists that the stranger-not Eden-is his wife.
Matthew Gardner, a Brunswick High School teacher in the History Department, wanted to share some books that people should read over the summer.
“My favorite book is Salem’s Lot by Steven King, a classic supernatural horror and contains really good character development, so I would definitely recommend that book for people wanting to find something entertaining since people don’t need to read something over the summer that would be teaching you things,” Gardner said.

I love a psychological thriller. However, if students are looking for some new YA books I would recommend the Black Eyed Susan Nominated titles. This list of 10 books is always my go to list for the summer to keep up with the latest YA books.
