In today’s day and age many people put a lot of time and effort into their looks.
High school is a time where teenagers experiment with different products and techniques that will make them feel confident and look their best for school. These are some of the common and best beauty secrets that were gathered from a group of Brunswick High School (BHS) students.
Hydration
Drinking water was a common theme among the students. A student known as Gigi, Pauline Nanie, and Xiomara Ramos, have all shared to drink water when relating to health.
“Drink plently of water,” Gigi said.
“Drink water, drink water,” Ramos said.
“Cutting sugar out of your diet and drinking a lot of water,” Nanie said.
Hair
Having healthy hair can greatly improve someone’s look and make them feel more confident. Different girls have suggested products such as Biotera hair mousse, Garnier leave-in conditioner and overnight silk hair curlers. A student, Justin Vasquez, said “for the hair is cold water and don’t take hot showers that’s bad for your hair.”
Skin
Multiple people have given shared their favorite skin care products and tips. For moisturizer the products Gold Bond Lotion and the Renew Lotion by Melaleuca. For facial serums the products Snail Mucin Serum and Cetaphil Healthy Renew Serum.
Hygiene
Taking showers daily is good for the body and mind. Some benefits that showering daily has is it can stimulate blood circulation, boost the immune system, relieve muscle soreness and lastly it can help keep skin and hair hydrated. So showering daily and staying clean is a big factor in beauty.

Products
Students have listed different types of products, no one had the same answer. No one should be using the same skin care products as everyone else. People have different types of skin tones: more sensitive skin, different conditions, etc. It is also important to use skin and body care products that are specifically for one’s skin type because it could cause a bad reaction, irritation, or acne otherwise.
Diet
Eating healthy can make someone glow from the inside out. When talking about beauty secrets Pauline Nanie, a Brunswick senior, shared her best diet advice being the importance of sugar intake.
“Cutting out sugar; I don’t get acne,” Nanie said.
She made a change in her diet that has helped her acne go away. In an article “7 Benefits of Cutting Out Sugar” by Lindsey DeSoto, RD, she expands on the importance of sugar intake.
“Too much sugar can cause body-wide inflammation and increase sebum (oil) production. Acne can be the result of excess sebum,” DeSoto said.
Another student, Gabriella, a junior, shared her focus on vegetables in her diet.
“My beauty secrets are to eat vegetables and carrots everyday,” Gabriella said.
Having a diet filled with vegetables provides more vitamin C which increases collagen production. Vitamin C reduces wrinkles while collagen keeps the skin smooth and supple.
Activity
Exercise and movement are essential for health. Tennis is more than just a fun sport people can play.
“Play tennis because tennis is the best. It gives you eight years of your lifespan,” Gabriella said.
This is backed by a study from Denmark that shows tennis expands one’s life by 9.7 years. Not only can it expand one’s life expectancy time but also “…partaking in tennis exercise once a week decreases depression and anxiety symptoms.”
Overall, taking care of one’s body and health is the best beauty secret. Eating healthy, putting time and effort into one’s appearance, will help boost their confidence.
Self-love and self-care are the best beauty secrets to use.
