What does being on the staff of the Garnet and Gold Gazette mean to you?
I enjoy journalism because we have freedom to express ourselves and write about things that impact us or our community directly. It feels refreshing to go to journalism class after other classes that are so structured and just relax. To me, it feels very freeing and being on the staff means I get to be a part of something in our school that I wasn’t in before.
How has being on the staff impacted you?
Being on the staff has impacted me by providing a community. I like writing articles with other people and collaborating. It has a much more inclusive environment than other classrooms.
What advice do you have for upcoming journalism students?
I would say make sure to try and write about things you hear students discussing because it’s more interesting—try to interview more than one person. I would also say ask more questions in interviews so you can pick and choose what to put in; the more information, the better.
Favorite high school memory?
My favorite high school memory is Friday Night Lights and spending time with my friends. I’d say I had a great high school experience and met some lifelong friends along the way.
What are your plans after high school?
I am going to FCC to get my associate degree in nursing and possibly transfer to another school for the nursing program and eventually become a nurse practitioner, hopefully in a dermatology clinic.
